Saudi woman forgets baby at terminal, goes on her flight

News Desk |

A Saudi Airline flight headed for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia returned back to King Abdul Aziz Airport just a few minutes after take-off when a passenger realized she had forgotten her baby at the terminal.

The panicked woman informed the cabin crew after which the pilot of the Saudi Airline made an unusual request to the Air Traffic controller to allow them to return to the airport.

The situation ended happily as the mother was united with the baby. This is, however, unusual for the planes to change the course or return back mid-air other than any technical reason or health of any passenger.

A video circulating on social media shows an unusual conversation in English and Arabic between a pilot and the air traffic controller staff.

“May God be with us. Can we come back or what?” he is heard asking.

One of the surprised controllers can then be heard telling a colleague: “This flight is requesting to come back…a passenger forgot her baby in the waiting area, the poor thing.”

The pilot can be heard repeating to the air traffic operator: “I told you, a passenger has left her baby in the terminal and she is refusing to continue the flight.” After a brief pause, the pilot was given permission to return back to the gate. He then adds: “OK, head back to the gate. This is totally a new one for us!”

The pilot has since been lauded for coming to the rescue of the distraught mother by social media users. There are confusing reports regarding the status of the plane, somewhere it is quoted to be in the air and somewhere it is suggested that the flight had not taken off yet.
