Schoolgirl Ayesha Mumtaz wins medal for Pakistan

With her exceptional skills and sheer talent, Mumtaz will now represent Pakistan at the semi-final of the tournament. She defeated Vietnam's Yen in the first round of their pin weight (46Kgs). Mumtaz overpowered her opponent in attacks and left-handed hooks.

A Pakistani schoolgirl Ayesha Mumtaz wins a medal for Pakistan in the ongoing Asian Junior Boxing Championship. The championship is currently taking place in the Al-Ain city of Dubai.

Mumtaz won the bronze medal in the quarter-finals of the tournament, thus making a place for herself in the semi-finals of the tournament. Pakistani schoolgirl from Sargodha defeated Thi Hong Yen Nguyen of Vietnam. Her victory has been labeled as historic for boxing in Pakistan.

Interestingly, Ayesha Mumtaz has become the second female boxer to win a medal for Pakistan. The only other female medalist from Pakistan in the Asian Boxing Championships was Hadiya Kamal, who won a bronze in the 2022 edition due to a direct entry into the semi-finals.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the participating 26 nations in the event.

Pakistan Boxing Federation has hailed her achievement. They appreciated the dedication of the athlete and the hard work of her support team. The Pakistan Boxing Federation has even issued a statement on her achievement.

“Mumtaz’s triumph is a testament to the potential of Pakistani athletes on the international stage. The PBF remains committed to fostering young talent across the country and anticipates further success from Ayesha Mumtaz and other emerging athletes,” the statement says.

Social media was inundated with messages of felicitations and appreciation for Ayesha Mumtaz. People urged the government to make arrangements and provide basic facilities to the budding talent in the country.
