Security officials win praise for thwarting Mianwali terror attack

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced awarding prizes and appreciation certificates to police officers and personnel for foiling the Mianwali terror attack.

Security officials in Punjab are winning praise for successfully thwarting a terrorist attack by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on a police station in Mianwali.

15 to 20 terrorists from TTP carrying modern weapons attacked the Makarwal police station in Mianwali, however, Punjab’s security team repulsed the terror attack.

Pertinent to mention that the Mianwali terror attack comes days after the horrific Peshawar suicide bombing which sent the nation into an uproar. Therefore, security forces foiling the terror attack is a major win for the country.

Netizens are praising the Punjab security forces for their courage while fighting back against the terrorists. They are also expressing their gratitude that the country was saved from what could have been another horrific tragedy.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the Punjab Police for successfully repulsing a terrorist attack on a police station in Mianwali. The premier has announced awarding prizes and appreciation certificates to police officers and personnel for displaying exceptional gallantry to foil the bid. He also paid tribute to the security officials as they forced the militants to flee after the heavy gun battle.

PM Shehbaz said the whole nation and institutions were on the same page against terrorism, adding that the police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) would be equipped with modern weapons.

 

Mianwali terror attack

The attack started at 9 pm as the TTP militants unleashed heavy fire at Makkarwal police station using automatic weapons. However, police teams from three regions — Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Sargodha — besides Lahore police and Punjab CTD had reached Mianwali for a ‘grand operation’ against the TTP.

The gun battle between Punjab’s security forces and TTP terrorists lasted for two hours and resulted in the latter fleeing the area, along with their injured accomplices. Punjab’s security forces on the other hand remained sustained no injuries.

The police clamped a security cordon around the entire area and launched a search operation. Furthermore, security measures have been heightened in other cities of Punjab including Multan and the entire Sargodha district.
