SEZs, roads, motorways & energy projects under CPEC to change fate of country: Asim Bajwa

Asim Saleem Bajwa said priority is being given to generate cheap electricity, and for this purpose, domestic coal would be utilized.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Lt. Gen (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa has said that Special Economic Zones, roads, motorways, and energy projects under the CPEC will change the fate of the country.

According to media reports while talking to a private news channel Asim Saleem Bajwa who is also Chairman of China Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority, said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has given special directives to speed up the projects falling under the CPEC.

He said work on Special Economic Zones is rapidly being carried out in Faisalabad, Karachi, Rashakai areas.

Launch of SEZs in Faisalabad and Sheikhupura

Soft launch of “Quaid-e-Azam Business Park” (QBP), on M-2, near Sheikhupura, is part of this initiative. The soft launch of the QBP was held last week, where it was inaugurated by PM Imran Khan in the presence of CM Punjab and his cabinet members.

The Quaid-e-Azam Business Park is a special economic zone (SEZ) that is being developed by Pakistan Industrial Estates Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) near Sheikhupura on M2 motorway. PIEDMIC, a public private partnership concern, is curently headed by a prominent industrialist and businessman, Mr. Nabeel Hashmi.

Faisalabad Industrial & Economic Development Company (FIEDMC) is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) entity between the Punjab government and the Faisalabad business community.

 

Since FIEDMC’s inception, it has successfully constructed three industrial estates along Faisalabad motorway, namely: M-3 Industrial City, Value Addition City and the latest, Allama Iqbal Industrial City (AIIC).

Expanding over an area of 3200 acres, Allama Iqbal Industrial City (AIIC) saw its groundbreaking at the hands of Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Friday 3rd January 2020.

Cheap electricity necessary for economic development

Asim Saleem Bajwa said priority is being given to generate cheap electricity, and for this purpose, domestic coal would be utilized.

Replying to a question, the chairman CPEC Authority said out of 17 power projects, nine have been completed so far.

On the Western route of the CPEC, he said progress has also been made on a motorway project from Dera Ismail Khan to Zhob.
