Shahbaz Gill predicts general elections may be announced before October

Many expect that PTI will secure a two-thirds majority in the next general elections and Imran Khan would become the prime minister yet again.

PTI leader and former SAPM has predicted that general elections are expected to be announced before October. He made the comments while talking to a private media channel.

Dr. Shahbaz Gill revealed that he got some reports regarding the general elections in October this year. He added that a businessman close to the ruling PML-N came to him and brought a message from the ruling party.

“The businessman sought 2-3 names from the PTI to hold talks. We are ready for free and fair elections even if it is going to be held tomorrow. I have conveyed the businessman’s message to Imran Khan. Imran Khan has also said that PTI wants free and fair elections,” Dr. Shahbaz Gill said.

Important to note that back in April, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wrote to President Dr. Arif Alvi that elections could safely be held honestly, justly, and fairly as ordained in Article 18 (3) of the constitution, in October 2022. The President had written to the ECP to propose dates for the early general elections following the controversial events of the no-confidence motion against former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Who will win the elections?

PTI has on numerous occasions demanded free and fair elections in the country. Many expect that PTI will secure a two-thirds majority in the next general elections and Imran Khan would become the prime minister yet again.

Important to note that PTI and its Chairman Imran Khan have been very popular among the public, especially the youth. Ever since Imran Khan was forcefully ousted by PML-N and PPP, PTI’s popularity further racked.

However, Pakistani politics have been proven to be very unpredictable and are often marred by controversial events. An example of this is the recent Punjab Chief Minister elections. PTI had secured a stunning victory in Punjab by polls, winning 15 constituencies, dealing a major blow to the PML-N, who only clinched four.

As a result, in the Punjab Chief Minister elections, victory was certain for PTI as its nominee PML-Q’s Parvez Elahi had 186 votes, more than PML-N candidate Hamza Shehbaz who had 179 votes. However, Hamza Shehbaz won the Punjab CM election after PA Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari’s controversial ruling rejecting 10 PML-Q votes. Currently, all eyes are on the Supreme Court who is yet to announce its verdict on Dost Mazari’s ruling.
