Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif on Monday received flak on social media for making inappropriate comments on the motorway gang-rape case in the National Assembly.
A small clip of Sharif’s speech on the case went viral on social media yesterday. While the Assembly was summoned to discuss the case, and other issues, Sharif’s incongruous comments on the subject were deemed unwarranted by social media users.

In his speech, Sharif called the motorway gang-rape case deplorable, but in the same breath, accredited former premier Nawaz Sharif for constructing the Lahore-Sialkot motorway. The opposition leader said, “By the Grace of God, Mian Nawaz Sharif had constructed that motorway where the incident happened”.

While Twitter went berserk over the insensitive comments, his Assembly mates and members of opposition banged the desk to approve of his remarks.

The viral video of his speech spurred intense reactions on social media. Netizens slammed Sharif for his apathetic attitude on the tragedy that has shocked the entire nation. Social media users recalled the same insensitive attitude of Sharif at the time of the rape and murder incident of eight-year-old girl Zainab from Kasur in 2018 – when he was the Chief Minister of Punjab.
If you are emotionally & mentally damaged because of Motorway incident, it's your own problem, but you all were forgetting that the Motorway was built by Nawaz Sharif, so someone had to remind you and Shahbaz Sharif did, that too in the national assembly, and all applauded too.👏

Pictures of him smiling and laughing while sitting with the grieving father of Zainab during a press conference resurfaced on Twitter.
