Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry defends the PTI government’s Billion Tree Tsunami. In an interview with journalist Saleem Safi, the minister called out the journalist for not knowing the basic facts.
During the interview, Saleem Safi grilled the minister and stated that the PTI government spreads false information and lies to the public. He also accused the PTI government of deliberately exaggerating its performance. The journalist then brought up the PTI government’s Billion Tree Tsunami and labeled it as “fraud.”
Saleem Safi claimed that in 2018, PM Khan stated that the PTI government planted 1160 million trees. However, Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul recently said in the Senate that the government planted 390 million trees.
On this note, Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry expressed his frustration at the incorrect information.
“It is such a disaster when the basic facts are not known,” Fawad Chaudhry said.

The Minister then clarified that PM Khan’s earlier statements were for the Billion Tree Tsunami in KP. However, Zartaj Gul was updating on the 10 Billion Trees Tsunami, which is in fact, different.
While still not believing the Minister, Saleem Safi challenged Fawad Chaudhry and said he will leave journalism forever if he can give proof of the billion trees planted. He also demanded that Fawad Chaudhry leave politics if the claims are false.
“You are very stubborn. You will not leave journalism,” Fawad Chaudhry hit back at the preposterous suggestion.
Fawad Chaudhry then recalled how even international bodies recognized Pakistan’s efforts. He gave the example of UK’s PM Boris Johnson’s recent appreciation of Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The UK appreciates Pakistan
In a speech to the UNGA on Wednesday, British PM Boris Johnson called for following the example of PM Khan to plant 10 billion trees, as he told world leaders at the United Nations that humanity has to “grow up” and tackle climate change.
Addressing the participants at the UNGA session, the UK PM termed the environment-friendly steps taken by Pakistan as exemplary.
He said it was now or never for the world to meet its goal of limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.
He also announced a project to plant trees in the UK and urged the international community to follow the initiative of PM Imran Khan to tackle the problems related to climate change.
