It is official that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif is the 23rd prime minister of Pakistan as he stands unopposed in National Assembly after PTI announced a boycott.
After giving a hard-hitting speech, PTI candidate for PM seat Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced PTI’s resignation. Following the announcement, all PTI MNAs, along with Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri walked out of the National Assembly in protest.
Important to note, a short while ago, PTI had decided to resign from the National Assembly. During PTI’s Parliamentary meeting, former PM Imran Khan said that he will resign from National Assembly. He also said he will not sit in National Assembly with people who robbed Pakistan. As a result, the resignations of PTI lawmakers continue to pour in on social media.

After the national anthem, Qasim Suri presented justification behind his April 3 ruling to dismiss the no-confidence motion against erstwhile prime minister Imran Khan.
Shah Mehmood withdraws as PM candidate
Speaking on the floor of NA, PTI leader and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi lashed out at the joint opposition. He said those who criticized each other in past have become united just to oust Imran Khan.
“There are also some people sitting in a joint alliance which played a key role in former PM Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s murder,” he said, adding that they all become united by neglecting the past.

As the ex-foreign minister announced PTI’s decision, NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri also said his “conscience” does not allow him to hold the election for the new prime minister. Therefore, he handed over the chair of the session to MNA Ayaz Sadiq — the senior-most member of the panel of chair.
Important to note, without Shah Mehmood Qureshi, there is no opposing candidate against Shehbaz Sharif. As a result, Shehbaz Sharif will be the next prime minister of Pakistan. He will take the oath at 8pm today.
