Sherry Rehman hits back at PM Khan’s accusation on past govts

In an interview with Al Jazeera, PM Khan blamed the Bhutto and Sharif families for the problems facing Pakistan. However, PM Khan's accusations did not sit well with PPP Senator Sherry Rehman who hit back in a series of tweets, claiming that corruption increased during PTI's term.

PPP Senator Sherry Rehman criticizes PM Khan’s accusations on past governments. According to Sherry Rehman, the rhetoric of blaming others has worn out.

In a series of tweets, Sherry Rehman recalled how debts during PM Khan’s term increased by 70%. As a result, Pakistan faces high rates of inflation and unemployment. To clarify, Pakistan earlier received $ 3 billion in loans from Saudi Arabia. The amount has been deposited for one year under a support package at a 4 percent interest rate.

“The Prime Minister is blaming Bhutto and the Sharif family for their three years of destruction. The rhetoric of blaming others for one’s incompetence is now badly worn. You have increased the total debt of the country by 70%. By taking loans of Rs. 20.7 trillion in 3 years, you are blaming others,” Sherry Rehman tweeted.

“In today’s weekly report, the overall rate of inflation has reached 19.49 percent. Is the current government not responsible for record debt, inflation, unemployment, and crises in 3 years? When will the government accept its responsibilities? Maybe they don’t realize yet that they are in government,” Sherry Rehman said on Twitter.

According to data by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country’s inflation rate in November hit 11.5 % which was the highest in 20 months. However, the government maintains that inflation in Pakistan is lower than other countries in the region.

“The Prime Minister thinks that everyone except him has come to do corruption in politics, but the majority of the country thinks that corruption has increased in this government. This time people will ask you about your performance in the election. You cannot be excused for blaming others,” she further added.

Sharifs, Bhuttos responsible for Pakistan’s plight: PM Khan

Sherry Rehman’s strong statements came after PM Khan’s recent interview to Al-Jazeera where he blamed the Bhutto and Sharif family for Pakistan’s problems.

He said his government wanted Pakistan to become a prosperous country. However, it was fighting against the two super-rich families who misused Pakistan’s resources.

PM Khan alleged that the two families were working to set up their dynasties in Pakistan and were responsible for the present mess the country is in.

“Corruption is something which destroys a country. The poor countries are poor not because they lack resources but because their leadership is corrupt,” he told the anchorperson.
