Another harrowing incident recently occurred in Sialkot where an elderly woman was publicly beaten over an alleged land dispute. Disturbing videos of the incident went viral on social media.
According to the video, the culprits grabbed the woman by her hair and dragged her across the streets. They then publicly beat the woman with sticks and also kicked her multiple times. A female culprit, who also beat the woman, filmed the entire incident from where the video originally surfaced.
After the video went viral, Sialkot police took action and registered a case against 15 suspects, including four women. Talking to the media, the old woman said that the incident arose due to a “land dispute” that she has had for the last 13 years.

While giving details on the incident, the woman said the culprits forced their way in and dragged her through the streets to the public square where they tortured her.
“I seek justice and the arrest of these people,” she pleaded. Chief Minister Buzdar also sought a report from the Inspector General of Police over the incident.

Important to note, netizens expressed concern since Sialkot frequently reports such violent incidents. Recently, a mob lynched a Sri Lankan factory manager over allegations of blasphemy.
The horrific Sialkot incident

Disturbing videos of the incident went viral on social media. The videos showed hundreds of people gathered at the site. According to information by the Sialkot Police Chief, the factory workers accused the victim of desecrating posters bearing the name of the Holy Prophet. As a result, the mob lynched the man.
Subsequently, authorities soon became mobilized. The Punjab IG revealed that the police obtained CCTV footage to identify the culprits. Later, the police announced that it arrested around 100 people, including one of the main culprits.
