Sindh IG takes notice of lady constable posting pro-Israel video

The lady police constable in question, identified as Sumbal Ghori, hails from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) and swiftly removed her video from the popular video-sharing platform after IG Sindh took notice of it.

The Inspector General of Police (IG) for Sindh, Riffat Mukhtar, has launched an inquiry into a TikTok video that featured a lady police constable donning her uniform while expressing support for Israel during the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Amid the eighth consecutive day of relentless Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, claiming the lives of over 1,800 Palestinians, including 583 children, the video in question drew significant attention. The global human rights watchdog, Human Rights Watch (HRW), raised alarm bells regarding Israel’s alleged use of white phosphorus munitions in its recent military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, sparking international concern about the potential repercussions of such actions.

The lady police constable in question, identified as Sumbal Ghori, hails from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) and swiftly removed her video from the popular video-sharing platform after IG Sindh took notice of it. The matter, however, did not end there, as the special branch DIG, Asif Aijaz Shaikh, was assigned to investigate the incident.

Speaking to Geo News, DIG Shaikh revealed that Sumbal Ghori is presently stationed with a special protection unit tasked with securing the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The 32-year-old constable had uploaded the video expressing support for Israel on TikTok with the intention of gaining fame and increasing her followers.

Delving into her prior conduct, DIG Shaikh disclosed that Ghori had been previously fined for misconduct in April 2023. Her service record shows that she had previously carried out her duties in Korangi in 2019 and in Mirpur Khas in 2021.

However, when questioned about the video’s upload, Ghori refuted the claim, asserting that someone else had posted it. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with authorities seeking to determine the circumstances surrounding the video and its implications for a serving police officer expressing views on a sensitive international issue.
