Maulana Yousaf Jamil, the elder son of the well-known religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, has confirmed that his brother, Asim Jamil, tragically took his own life due to severe depression.
Asim Jamil, the son of renowned scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, passed away in Punjab’s Talamba, and initial reports suggested he was assassinated. However, Maulana Tariq Jamil clarified on social media that it was an ‘accidental death.’
In a video message, Maulana Yousaf Jamil revealed that his brother had been struggling with severe depression since childhood and was undergoing treatment, which included electric shocks. Despite continuous efforts to support Asim Jamil, his mental health had deteriorated over the last six months.
Maulana Yousaf Jamil further disclosed that his brother had taken his own life by snatching a gun from a security guard while he was alone at home on Sunday. He emphasized that there was no indication of enmity contributing to his brother’s death.
Meanwhile, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan, Sohail Chaudhary, reported that Maulana Asim Jamil had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. In CCTV footage, it was observed that the son of the religious scholar had shot himself in the chest. RPO Multan also mentioned that the incident occurred while the deceased was in the gymnasium.
