OpenAI unveils new tools to boost developer capabilities in AI race

OpenAI has introduced a range of new tools designed to simplify the development of artificial intelligence (AI) applications. These tools, revealed during the company’s DevDay event in San Francisco, reflect OpenAI’s efforts to stay ahead in the increasingly competitive generative AI market.

Simplifying AI Voice Application Development

The centerpiece of OpenAI’s latest tool rollout is a real-time API, now available for developers to test. This tool allows the creation of AI-powered voice applications using a single set of instructions, streamlining what was once a multi-step process. Previously, developers needed to transcribe audio, generate a response with a text model, and convert that response back into speech. OpenAI’s new API combines all these steps into one, simplifying development and reducing time-to-market for voice-based applications.

Cutting Costs with Prompt Caching

To help reduce the cost of developing AI applications, OpenAI also unveiled “Prompt Caching,” which stores frequently used prompts, allowing developers to reuse previous computations. This not only cuts input costs by 50% but also speeds up the processing of repeated queries.
