Taylor Swift dismisses rumors of novel release during Eras Tour break

The speculation began when The Sun published a report claiming that Swift was preparing to release a novel she wrote as a teenager.

Recent rumors suggested that Taylor Swift, the global pop sensation, might be adding “novelist” to her already impressive list of accomplishments. However, reports now confirm that the singer has no plans to publish a novel during her break from the Eras Tour.

Rumored Novel Sparks Fan Speculation

The speculation began when The Sun published a report claiming that Swift was preparing to release a novel she wrote as a teenager. Allegedly titled A Girl Named Girl, the story follows the journey of a mother who hoped for a son but ended up with a daughter. The report further hinted that Swift had filed a new trademark request, covering potential merchandise and an audiobook version, suggesting that a launch could be imminent. This rumor caught fire quickly, given that Swift has previously expressed an interest in writing and even secured trademark rights for the book title back in 2015.

Reality Check: No Novel in the Works

Despite the buzz, US Weekly confirmed that Swift, 34, has no plans to publish any book. The singer, who is known for her meticulous planning and unexpected career moves, has not taken any steps beyond the initial trademark filing in 2015. Sources close to Swift dismissed the rumors, clarifying that while she did draft a novel during her teenage years, she has no intention of releasing it to the public at this time.

Past Statements and Persistent Theories

This isn’t the first time fans have speculated about Swift’s literary ambitions. In a 2012 interview, Swift revealed she once considered a career as a novelist: “All my friends were back in Pennsylvania, so I had nothing to do,” she said. “I had this epiphany; I’m going to be a novelist and I’m going to write novels. That’s going to be my career path.” More recently, fans even theorized that Swift might have written the tie-in book for the 2024 spy thriller Argylle under the pseudonym Elly Conway, pointing to subtle coincidences like Swift’s shared cat breed with the fictional author.

For now, Swift’s plans remain centered around music and her ongoing Eras Tour. After a short hiatus, she will resume performing in Miami on October 18, before moving on to New Orleans, Indianapolis, and ending her tour in Vancouver, Canada, on December 8. While fans eagerly await her next move, they can be sure that a novel release is not in Swift’s immediate future. Instead, the singer seems to be enjoying some well-deserved downtime, surrounded by friends and loved ones, before her busy tour schedule resumes.
