2024 BMW X2 Earns Top Safety Pick Rating from IIHS

One of the latest additions to BMW’s lineup, the 2024 X2, has recently received the highly coveted Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This redesigned sport utility vehicle offers not only a sleek and stylish appearance but also advanced technology and impressive safety features.

The IIHS, an organization renowned for its rigorous testing and evaluation of vehicle safety, awarded the X2 with good ratings for both crashworthiness and crash avoidance. To qualify for the Top Safety Pick rating, a vehicle must earn good ratings in two frontal crash tests and a side impact test. Additionally, the standard headlights across all trim levels must rank as acceptable or good, and the vehicle must provide a forward collision avoidance system that rates acceptable or good in a pedestrian detection test. The X2 passed each test with flying colors, showcasing its commitment to safety.

However, it’s important to note that the X2 hasn’t yet undergone the updated moderate overlap test required to be eligible for the Top Safety Pick+ award. This new test includes a dummy seated behind the driver, and a good or acceptable rating in this test is necessary to achieve the higher-tier award. While the X2 may have missed out on the Top Safety Pick+, its current Top Safety Pick rating still speaks volumes about its safety capabilities.

The 2024 X2 has undergone several notable changes from its predecessor. It has grown larger and heavier by approximately 300 pounds. This increase in size and weight has not only enhanced its presence on the road but also potentially improved its crashworthiness. The X2 is available in two variants: xDrive28i and M35i xDrive. The xDrive28i model features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, the M Performance model, the M35i xDrive, boasts an increased horsepower of 309 hp. Both models come equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a built-in limited-slip differential for optimal performance.

Interestingly, the X2 also serves as the platform for Mini’s new Countryman four-door model. This demonstrates BMW’s commitment to utilizing its expertise and technology across different brands to deliver exceptional vehicles.

In conclusion, the newly redesigned 2024 BMW X2 has proven itself to be a top contender in terms of safety. Its endorsement as a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS solidifies its position as a reliable and secure option for buyers. With its advanced technology and enhanced crashworthiness, the X2 sets a new standard for safety in the SUV segment. Whether it’s navigating city streets or cruising on the highway, the X2 offers peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike.
