2024 RV Data Yearbook: Popular RV Categories and Trends Revealed

The RV industry is experiencing a surge in popularity, especially when it comes to certain types of RVs. RV Trader, a trusted authority in the RV market, recently released its 2024 Data Yearbook, shedding light on the most sought-after categories for both new and used RV shoppers.

According to RV Trader’s study, used Class B motorhomes have seen a remarkable growth of almost 10 percent between 2022 and 2023. This upward trend is expected to continue in 2024, as Class B vehicle registrations have already witnessed a substantial 17.5 percent year-to-date growth. It’s evident that more and more people are turning to these compact yet versatile motorhomes for their road trip adventures.

When it comes to new RVs, RV Trader’s data reveals a clear hierarchy of popularity among different categories. Topping the list is the travel trailer, followed closely by the fifth wheel and Class C motorhomes. Class B motorhomes, known for their compact size, come in fourth place, while the luxurious Class A motorhomes secure the fifth spot. Additionally, pop-up RV trailers, park models, and truck campers also make the cut as popular choices for new RV enthusiasts.

For used RVs, the rankings remain quite similar. Travel trailers are the most sought-after category, closely followed by the fifth wheel and Class A motorhomes. Class C motorhomes, pop-up RV trailers, and Class B motorhomes also enjoy considerable popularity among used RV buyers. Park models and truck campers complete the list, proving that there is a demand for various types of RVs in the pre-owned market.

Interestingly, RV Trader’s study highlights the preferences of different age groups when it comes to RV choices. Younger groups, such as millennials, show a greater inclination towards travel trailers and camping trailers. On the other hand, baby boomers tend to opt for larger Class A and Class C motorhomes, as well as other models. However, there is a significant proportion of RV buyers between the ages of 35 and 44, indicating a growing trend of younger individuals embracing the RV lifestyle. This demographic shift represents a new development in the RV market, where RVing was once associated primarily with older age groups.

Despite the increasing interest from younger buyers, the largest age group in the RV market remains the 55-64 age range. It is clear that RVing continues to be a popular activity among older individuals, highlighting its appeal as a later-life adventure pursuit. However, with the emergence of younger buyers and their preferences for different types of RVs, the industry is witnessing a shift in demographics and an expansion of the RVing community.

In addition to the popularity of specific RV categories, RV Trader’s data also sheds light on the brands that are capturing buyers’ attention. Airstream, known for its iconic silver bullet-style travel trailers, experienced an impressive 24.5 percent increase in search traffic between 2023 and 2024, showcasing the enduring appeal of their brand. Forest River brands dominated online searches, indicating a high level of interest and demand among consumers. Meanwhile, Winnebago secured the second spot in the internet interest rankings, cementing its position as a leading brand in the RV market.

Overall, RV Trader’s comprehensive study provides valuable insights into the current trends and preferences in the RV market. With the growing popularity of Class B motorhomes, the diverse choices available in new and used RV categories, and the shifting demographics of RV buyers, it is clear that the RV industry is thriving. Whether you’re a seasoned RVer or someone looking to embark on your first road trip adventure, these trends can help inform your decision when selecting the perfect RV for your needs and preferences.
