2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron: A Solid Choice for Luxury Electric SUVs

Audi has been at the forefront of the electric vehicle (EV) market since the launch of its first E-Tron SUV in 2019. Now, they are expanding their lineup with the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron, which fills the gap between their previous SUV offerings. This new addition follows Audi’s naming convention for EVs, reserving odd numbers for internal combustion vehicles.

The Q6 E-Tron and SQ6 E-Tron are both built on Audi’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which is shared with the all-electric Porsche Macan. This platform features an 800-volt architecture that maximizes battery efficiency. The vehicles are powered by a 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack, with 94.4 kWh of usable capacity. The Q6 and SQ6 E-Trons have impressive DC fast-charging capabilities, with a maximum charge rate of 270 kW. This allows for a 10-80% charge in just 21 minutes.

In terms of performance, the Q6 E-Tron comes standard with two motors for all-wheel drive, producing 422 horsepower under normal conditions and up to 456 horsepower in launch mode. The European versions are limited to 382 horsepower, but they also offer a rear-wheel-drive model for increased range. The Q6 is estimated to have a range of 307 miles on a single charge, though electric Audis have been known to exceed their estimates.

The SQ6 E-Tron offers even more power, with 483 horsepower nominally and 509 horsepower in launch mode. It features a sportier suspension and upgraded brakes compared to the Q6. The estimated range drops to 276 miles, but it boasts a quicker acceleration time, reaching 60 miles per hour in 4.1 seconds compared to the Q6’s 4.9 seconds.

During a test drive in Spain, the Q6 E-Tron impressed with its smooth and silent performance. It handled well in curves and offered one-pedal driving, making it effortless to operate. The SQ6 E-Tron was even sportier, with noticeably less body roll and improved braking and acceleration dynamics. Audi is also planning to release an RS Q6 E-Tron in the future, which is expected to offer even higher performance.

From a design perspective, the Q6 and SQ6 E-Trons feature sharp creases, bulging flares, and deep sculpted body panels. They offer a modern yet familiar appearance that appeals to traditionalists while maintaining a sleek aesthetic. Inside the vehicle, Audi has adopted a simpler design with a single panel housing the digital instrument panel and infotainment touchscreen. The infotainment system is user-friendly and features improved voice controls, with over 800 commands available.

In terms of comfort and space, the Q6 E-Tron provides firm and supportive seating, with plenty of legroom and headroom in the rear seats. The cargo area is generous, offering up to 30.2 cubic feet of space, along with additional storage under the floor and in the frunk.

Overall, the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron represents a logical evolution of Audi’s electric vehicle lineup. It offers a solid choice among electric SUVs, with impressive performance, comfort, and range. While there are no significant faults to note, there is also nothing that truly sets it apart from its competitors. However, Audi plans to release an RS Q6 E-Tron in the future that may deliver the thrills some enthusiasts are seeking. For now, the Q6 and SQ6 E-Trons provide competent and enjoyable options for luxury electric SUV shoppers.
