Ford has announced the first refresh of the 2025 Maverick, and it’s good news for hybrid enthusiasts. The new update includes optional all-wheel drive and an upgraded tow package for the greener option. The truck also receives updated styling and improved convenience features.
Starting with the exterior changes, the modifications are subtle, primarily focused on the front fascia. The headlights have been slightly trimmed, and the grille has been adjusted to match. Interestingly, each Maverick model will have its own unique grille design, adding a touch of individuality to the lineup. Moving inside the cabin, there are more noticeable changes. All Mavericks will now come equipped with a larger 13.2-inch infotainment screen. This display offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features, allowing for seamless smartphone integration. Additionally, the screen can be used to access the available 360-degree camera mode and split front and rear views.
However, the most significant news lies beneath the surface, specifically with the hybrid variant. The 2.5-liter hybrid four-cylinder engine’s power output remains the same, generating 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. But now, customers have the option to pair the hybrid with all-wheel drive, a feature that has been in high demand. This change also results in the hybrid Maverick adopting the multi-link independent rear suspension system, similar to the turbocharged all-wheel-drive model. Previously, the hybrid version utilized a torsion-beam rear end. It’s worth noting that the hybrid variant retains the electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) instead of an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Furthermore, the hybrid variant with all-wheel drive can now be equipped with the 4K Towing Package. As the name suggests, this package doubles the towing capacity from 2,000 pounds to an impressive 4,000 pounds. This means that customers no longer have to compromise between fuel efficiency and towing capability, providing them with a versatile and capable option.
While the hybrid variant receives significant updates, the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine remains unchanged. It exclusively comes with all-wheel drive and is the only engine option available for the Tremor trim. This engine delivers 238 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, offering a spirited driving experience.
In addition to the powertrain enhancements, Ford is introducing new towing features as optional upgrades. These features include Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. The Pro Trailer Hitch Assist automatically backs up the truck to the trailer hitch, taking the stress out of the process. On the other hand, the Pro Trailer Backup Assist allows drivers to control both the truck and trailer via a knob, simplifying maneuverability. These features come as standard on the Lariat and Tremor trims, along with adaptive cruise control, lane centering, stop-and-go functions, and traffic sign recognition.
While the updates and enhancements are impressive, it’s important to note that the Maverick’s price has increased. The base front-drive XL trim will now start at $27,890, including the $1,595 destination charge. Despite the higher starting price, the Maverick still offers excellent value for money, considering its innovative features and versatile performance.
For those eager to get their hands on the refreshed Maverick, order books will open on August 1, with deliveries scheduled for later this year. This gives potential buyers the opportunity to secure their preferred configuration and be among the first to experience the upgraded hybrid and all-wheel-drive capabilities of the 2025 Ford Maverick. With its impressive towing capacity, advanced technology, and stylish design, the Maverick continues to redefine what a compact truck can achieve.
