Amazon Launches New Grocery Delivery Subscription for Prime Members and EBT Cardholders

Amazon has announced the launch of a new grocery delivery subscription for its Prime members and customers with an EBT card in the U.S. This subscription is available to residents of the 3,500 eligible cities and towns.

Last year, Amazon began testing its grocery delivery service in three locations: Denver, Colorado; Sacramento, California; and Columbus, Ohio. After successful trials, the company is now expanding the service to a wider audience.

The subscription is priced at $9.99 per month for Amazon Prime users and $4.99 per month for Amazon-registered EBT card holders. Subscribers will enjoy free delivery for grocery orders over $35, not only from Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market but also from local grocery and specialty retailers such as Cardenas Markets, Save Mart, Bartell Drugs, Rite Aid, Pet Food Express, and Mission Wine & Spirit.

One of the standout features of this subscription is the one-hour delivery windows provided at no extra cost. Additionally, subscribers can enjoy unlimited 30-minute pickup for orders of any size, ensuring convenience and flexibility.

Another benefit of the subscription is priority access to recurring reservations for a weekly grocery order. This feature allows customers to secure their preferred time slot for delivery or pickup, making the process even more streamlined.

According to Amazon, the subscription “pays for itself” with just one monthly order from Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods Market. Even if the total order value is under $50, subscribers will still be able to save money with this plan.

Amazon’s new grocery delivery plan faces competition from other retail giants. Walmart Plus, priced at $12.95 per month or $98 per year, offers a similar service. Target also provides a free grocery delivery plan for $99 per year. These plans have the same minimum order limit as Amazon’s grocery subscription plan.

In recent news, Amazon made a significant change to its checkout process. The company removed its “Just Walk Out” technology, which allowed customers to walk out of the store without a formal checkout process. Instead, Amazon has introduced the Dash Cart, a new feature that allows customers to scan products as they put items into their physical cart. This change aims to enhance the overall shopping experience and improve efficiency.

With the launch of its new grocery delivery subscription, Amazon continues to expand its reach in the grocery industry. By offering convenience, flexibility, and access to a wide range of retailers, the company aims to meet the evolving needs of its customers. As competition in this space intensifies, it will be interesting to see how Amazon’s offering fares against its rivals.
