Apple Delays AI Features for New iPhones, Plans October Software Update

Apple Delays Launch of AI Features

Apple’s highly anticipated AI features will likely not be available when the new iPhones debut in September, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Sources familiar with the matter have revealed that Apple plans to release the AI features as software updates “by October.” This delay is attributed to the need for additional time to fix bugs and ensure third-party developer support.

During the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, Apple announced its AI features, which are said to be deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. However, when the beta versions of these operating systems launched in July, many of the new features, including a smarter Siri, an AI-powered text editing feature called Rewrite, and AI-generated images called Genmoji, were noticeably absent.

Although Apple did not mention a specific release date for its AI features, reports suggested that some features would be available alongside the launch of the new iPhones in September. However, it now seems that Apple will introduce iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia in September and follow up with an update to include the AI features at a later date. As a result, the initial models of the iPhone 16 may also be lacking these AI capabilities when they are shipped to consumers.

While unofficial, the report suggests that Apple may release Apple Intelligence in its developer betas, specifically iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, as early as this week. However, it is important to note that this information has yet to be confirmed.

Furthermore, there is an official delay to Apple’s AI features in Europe. In June, Apple stated that it would not launch Apple Intelligence in Europe until at least 2025 due to regulatory concerns. This delay highlights the challenges that Apple faces in navigating the complex regulatory landscape surrounding AI technologies.

In conclusion, although Apple enthusiasts may have to wait a bit longer for the AI features promised by the tech giant, the delay is likely a result of Apple’s commitment to delivering a polished and bug-free user experience. By taking the time to address any issues and ensure compatibility with third-party developers, Apple aims to provide a seamless and reliable AI integration into its operating systems.
