Audi Unveils Plans for 20 New Models in 2024-2025: Next-Gen A5, Electric A6 E-Tron, and Third-Gen Q5 in Focus

Audi has exciting plans for the future, with 20 new models set to be launched in 2024 and 2025. While details about all these models are yet to be revealed, the company has shed some light on three of them: the next-generation A5, the electric A6 E-Tron, and the third generation of the popular Q5.

Starting with the A5, Audi is looking to expand the lineup even further. The next A5 is being referred to as a model family, indicating that it will include more than just the traditional coupe, convertible, and four-door Sportback models. In fact, there are rumors that Audi will be restructuring its naming system, with odd-numbered nameplates denoting electric cars and even-numbered nameplates for gasoline-powered models. This means the successor to the A4 might no longer carry the A4 nameplate, and it’s unclear exactly what designation it will receive. However, a preview picture released by Audi shows a station wagon or crossover with distinctive features like a light bar, roof-mounted spoiler, and a sharply-creased hatch. This model will mark “the beginning of the next generation of combustion engines,” according to Audi.

Next up is the electric A6 E-Tron, set to be unveiled later in July. This model will be offered in both Sportback and Avant-branded wagon versions. While we haven’t seen the production version yet, it’s expected to closely resemble the A6 E-Tron concept that was showcased in 2021. According to Audi designer Wolf Seebers, about 95% of the concept’s design will be carried over to the production model.

As for the current gasoline-burning A6, its future remains uncertain. Audi may choose to keep it around alongside its electric successor, similar to Porsche’s strategy with the original Macan. However, if the rumors about the revamped naming system are true, the next generation of the gasoline A6 may not bear the A6 nameplate.

Moving on to the Q5, Audi will be presenting the third generation of this incredibly important model in the fall. While specific details are yet to be revealed, we do know that it will include a hybrid model. The Q5 has been a best-seller for Audi, and in 2023 alone, Audi of America sold an impressive 228,550 cars, with the Q5 leading the pack.

With more details about these upcoming models set to emerge in the coming weeks, Audi enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to. Whether it’s the expansion of the A5 range, the introduction of the electric A6 E-Tron, or the highly anticipated third-generation Q5, Audi’s future lineup is sure to impress.
