“BMW M4 CS: The Track-Focused Powerhouse with Enhanced Performance and Lightweight Design”

BMW has unveiled the latest addition to its M4 lineup, the M4 CS. This track-focused version boasts more power, less weight, and a reworked chassis compared to the Competition car, with the aim of improving both straight-line performance and on-limit handling.

Under the hood, the M4 CS features an upgraded version of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine found in the limited-run CSL. With an increase in turbo boost pressure, the peak power has been upped from 523bhp to 543bhp. While the torque remains the same as the Competition, it is sustained for an additional 220rpm at the top end of the rev range.

To ensure the CS can endure long sessions on the track, the powertrain has been fine-tuned. The cooling system has been improved, and the supply of oil to the clutch has been increased to maintain performance. The CS also benefits from stiffer engine mounts, unique to this model, which enhance the powertrain’s responsiveness.

In terms of weight reduction, the CS sheds 20kg thanks to a titanium exhaust silencer and various carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) components. These include the center console, gearbox paddles, and interior trim pieces. With the reduced weight and increased power, the CS accelerates from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds, compared to 3.5 seconds in the Competition model.

The chassis of the M4 CS has been fine-tuned to improve steering precision and wheel control. Stiffer springs and anti-roll bars help reduce roll through tight bends. Additionally, the stability control system has been reprogrammed to allow for more slip and power delivery when driving with an “extremely sporty driving style.”

The M4 CS comes equipped with staggered lightweight wheels, 19 inches up front and 20 inches at the rear. These wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber as standard, with the option for the more track-focused Cup 2 R compound. The result of these enhancements is an impressive Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 7 minutes 21.99 seconds, nearly 6.8 seconds faster than the M3 CS.

In terms of aesthetics, the M4 CS features distinctive yellow-tinted daytime-running lights inspired by BMW’s GT race cars. The grille is outlined in red, similar to the M3 CS, and the coupé version offers paint finishes such as Riviera Blue and Frozen Isle of Man Green.

The M4 CS is priced starting from £117,100 and will be available for order at the end of the month, with deliveries expected to begin in the autumn.

Overall, the M4 CS represents a significant step forward in terms of performance and handling compared to the Competition model. With its increased power, reduced weight, and fine-tuned chassis, it offers a more exhilarating driving experience both on the road and on the track.
