Dacia is preparing to launch its largest car yet, the Bigster SUV, and new images of the camouflaged vehicle testing on public roads have emerged. The production car’s design appears to stay true to the concept that was unveiled in 2021, featuring 4×4-inspired proportions and slim LED headlights similar to the smaller Dacia Duster SUV. The Bigster is essentially an elongated version of the Duster, sharing the same platform but measuring 0.3m longer at 4.6m in length.

The Bigster is poised to compete with popular models like the Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4, and Dacia CEO Denis Le Vot believes that its value-focused approach will attract buyers who are being priced out of the mid-sized segment. Le Vot emphasized Dacia’s commitment to affordability, stating that the Bigster will not start with a four-figure price tag like many other vehicles in its class. It is expected to undercut its rivals, with a starting price just below £30,000. In comparison, the Ford Kuga starts at £32,095 and the Skoda Kodiaq at £36,645. The new Duster, on the other hand, is anticipated to be priced below £20,000.

To keep prices low, Dacia plans to build “the essential car” by omitting unnecessary technologies and equipment whenever possible. Le Vot stated that they design cars with zero superfluous content and only include features that are essential. This approach allows them to offer competitive pricing while still providing a reliable and functional vehicle.

In terms of powertrains, Dacia will likely utilize existing engines from the Renault Group. The entry-level Bigster is expected to feature a 108bhp turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Dacia Jogger MPV, while the hybrid set-up found in the Jogger and Duster (138bhp) is also anticipated to be available. Additionally, there may be an option to add a third row of seats as an optional extra, similar to the Nissan X-Trail.

The launch of the Bigster coincides with Dacia’s brand reinvention, as they aim to become a genuine competitor for brands like Jeep without abandoning their value-focused principles.
