Discover New Streamers on Twitch with the New TikTok-Like Feed

Twitch, the popular live-streaming platform, has officially launched its new discovery feed, similar to TikTok, for all users. This new feature, available as a tab on the Twitch iOS and Android apps, allows viewers to easily explore and discover new streamers through bite-sized content. The release of this feed comes after Twitch conducted tests in August 2023.

With the introduction of this feature, Twitch joins a growing list of apps that have incorporated short-form video feeds after witnessing the success of TikTok. Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Uber Eats, and LinkedIn are just a few examples of platforms that have followed suit.

The discovery feed consists of two tabs: a live feed and a clips feed. The live feed showcases livestreams from both followed streamers and those recommended by Twitch based on user preferences. On the other hand, the clips feed highlights top moments from streamers across Twitch, enabling users to explore content even when streamers are not live.

While Twitch is traditionally known as a platform for watching livestreams when there is ample time available, the clips feed caters to users who only have a few minutes to spare. This allows individuals to still engage with content on Twitch, even during short breaks or downtime.

To further personalize the content displayed in the feed, users can indicate their preferences by using the thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons on livestreams or clips. This feature helps Twitch understand the type of content users want to see more or less of, enhancing their overall experience.

The introduction of the discovery feed addresses a long-standing request from Twitch streamers for new features that can help them reach wider audiences. Unlike TikTok, Twitch does not operate on a fully algorithmic platform, leaving streamers with limited options for attracting new viewers beyond self-promotion on other channels or collaborating with fellow streamers. The discovery feed opens up new possibilities for small and medium streamers to expand their reach and connect with fresh audiences.

Twitch has clarified that all livestreams and clips will be eligible to appear in the feed as long as they adhere to the platform’s content guidelines. While streamers cannot directly upload content to the discovery feed, Twitch encourages them to create and feature clips from their livestreams to increase the chances of being included in the feed.

Overall, the launch of Twitch’s discovery feed signifies the platform’s commitment to providing a more diverse and engaging experience for its users. By incorporating elements from popular short-form video platforms like TikTok, Twitch aims to keep pace with evolving user preferences and provide streamers with new avenues to grow their audience.
