Family Behind California Forever Utopian City Plans New Development in Solano County

The family of venture capitalist Marc Andreessen is planning a significant community development in Solano County, California, near the proposed California Forever utopian city. The project is being spearheaded by A&P Children Investments, an LLC operated by Andreessen’s wife, Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen’s brother. The development is expected to include over 1,000 homes.

The land owned by A&P Children Investments is located on the outskirts of Vacaville, about 10 miles away from the California Forever development. The family plans to sell the property for the benefit of Arrillaga-Andreessen and her brother. The Arrillaga family owns several parcels of land in the area, totaling around 730 acres. These properties were originally purchased by their billionaire real estate developer father, John Arrillaga Sr., in 1985.

California Forever is a proposed master-planned community that has been quietly acquiring land in Solano County since 2017. Investors in this land include Marc Andreessen, Mike Moritz, Reid Hoffman, and Laurene Powell Jobs. However, the project leaders were unaware of the Arrillaga family’s connection to A&P Children Investments when they began acquiring land.

While California Forever has faced setbacks and a lack of local trust and support, Solano County is still a hotbed for development. The demand for housing in Vacaville is high, making any housing project in the area likely to be profitable. The A&P Children Investments development has been making progress, with plans for a master-planned community that includes various types of housing, parks, and open spaces.

The Arrillaga family has a history of successful real estate investments. Arrillaga Sr. and his business partner, Richard Peery, bought thousands of acres of cheap land in the Bay Area in the 1960s, which eventually became the foundation for Silicon Valley. They became billionaires by building offices for tech giants like Oracle, Cisco, LinkedIn, Apple, and Google.

The strategy of both California Forever and A&P Children Investments mirrors the approach taken by Arrillaga Sr. – targeting cheap agricultural land, operating in secrecy, and building metropolises before there was obvious demand. Despite facing criticism, A&P Children Investments may have an easier victory in Solano County due to the demand for housing in the area.

Overall, Solano County is becoming a hub for development, with multiple projects underway. The involvement of prominent investors like Marc Andreessen and the Arrillaga family highlights the potential for growth and investment opportunities in the area.
