“Fangchengbao Unveils Radical New Cars at Beijing Motor Show”

Fangchengbao, a subsidiary of the Chinese company BYD, has introduced three new cars – the Bao 8, Super 3, and Super 9. These models are set to make their debut at the Beijing Motor Show. Fangchengbao was established as a separate brand from BYD last year, with its first model, the Bao 5 SUV, hitting the market in August.

The Bao 5 SUV has gained popularity, with 20,000 units delivered since November. This success has paved the way for Fangchengbao’s expansion, with the upcoming releases of the Super 3 and Bao 8, as well as the Super 9, which will serve as a flagship vehicle for the brand.

The Bao 8, which is expected to be the first to launch, has recently been unveiled in its production form. It shares a similar ladder chassis with the Bao 5 but features a longer wheelbase and a range-extender powertrain that delivers over 670bhp to all four wheels. The Bao 8 also benefits from hydraulic suspension borrowed from Yangwang’s U8, another premium brand under BYD.

On the other end of Fangchengbao’s lineup is the Super 3, designed to attract a younger audience. This model utilizes a battery-electric powertrain rather than a range-extender system. The Super 3 concept showcases bold and distinctive styling cues, such as off-road tires, boxy wheel arches, and even a roof-mounted landing pad for a drone. More details about the Super 3 are expected to be revealed at the Beijing Motor Show.

The most striking concept from Fangchengbao is the Super 9, an electric speedster designed by Wolfgang Egger, known for his work on the Alfa Romeo 8C and fourth-generation Audi A6. The Super 9 was unveiled with a special livery featuring the number ’30,’ which is believed to be a nod to BYD’s upcoming 30th anniversary. This suggests that a production version of the Super 9 may be launched in the near future.

Overall, Fangchengbao’s expansion in the Chinese market signifies its ambition to compete with established brands like Toyota and Land Rover. The introduction of the Bao 8, Super 3, and Super 9 showcases the brand’s commitment to innovation and electrification. With its unique features and aggressive designs, Fangchengbao aims to capture the attention of younger consumers and establish itself as a formidable player in the automotive industry.
