Ford Mustang Mach-E Sets Guinness World Record for Longest Distance Travelled on a Single Charge

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest distance travelled by an electric car on a single charge. The record attempt, sponsored by fleet management provider Webfleet, took place on 27 July in the UK. The team managed to travel an impressive 569 miles and 3379ft in just over 24 hours, surpassing the previous record set by Zeekr’s autonomous division in China.

The record-breaking journey was meticulously documented and verified using video footage, odometer readings, GPS, and battery-level data from Webfleet. Guinness World Records has officially recognized it as the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge.

The team chose the Mach-E Premium Extended Range variant for the record attempt due to its more efficient single-motor powertrain and large 91kWh battery. During the journey, the car averaged an impressive 6.25 miles per kilowatt hour, far exceeding its official WLTP combined cycle rating of 3.8mpkWh. Notably, the car was able to travel an additional 21 miles even after its battery reached 0% capacity.

Several factors contributed to the Mach-E’s success in achieving this record. The car’s smaller 18-inch wheels, wrapped in Bridgestone’s efficiency-optimized EV tires, provided enhanced comfort throughout the lengthy journey. In addition, the record run was staged on public roads in various locations in the UK, including Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Cambridgeshire. This mix of road types aimed to emulate real-world driving conditions, ensuring that the record attempt was a true test of the car’s capabilities.

The record-breaking attempt was led by Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke, who already held various records for fuel economy and EV efficiency runs. They recently achieved the same record for electric vans with a 311-mile run in a Fiat E-Scudo. Webfleet, the sponsor of both records, is a provider of fleet management solutions owned by Bridgestone. The company is trusted by more than 60,000 businesses worldwide to improve the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of their vehicle fleets.

Beverley Wise, Webfleet’s UK and Ireland regional director for Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, praised the achievement, stating that it represents a significant milestone in the electrification of road transport. Wise emphasized the potential of electric vehicles when supported by innovative tire design and advanced fleet management technology.

While this is the verified longest distance travelled by an electric production car, Mercedes-Benz’s EQXX concept holds the overall record for the longest distance travelled on a single charge. The streamlined concept car managed to travel an astonishing 747 miles from Stuttgart to Silverstone in 2022.

In conclusion, the Ford Mustang Mach-E’s record-breaking journey showcases the impressive capabilities of electric vehicles. It not only demonstrates the potential for long-distance travel but also highlights the importance of efficient powertrains, large batteries, and advanced fleet management technology in maximizing electric vehicle performance. As the automotive industry continues to embrace electrification, records like this push the boundaries of what is possible and contribute to the ongoing evolution of sustainable transportation.
