Ford is making a bold move into the electric bike segment by leveraging two of its most iconic nameplates: Bronco and Mustang. The American automaker has unveiled a range of e-bikes that cater to both road and off-road enthusiasts.
To develop these e-bikes, Ford partnered with a company called n+ that has previously collaborated with prestigious brands like Mercedes-AMG. By utilizing off-the-shelf components, Ford has been able to save time and money in the development process. As a result, both the Mustang and Bronco e-bikes feature a 750-watt hub-mounted motor, generating an impressive 62.5 pound-feet of torque. They can reach a top speed of 28 mph and offer a range of up to 60 miles.
It’s worth noting that the quoted top speed of 28 mph is solely reliant on the motor. Riders can go faster, but they will have to rely on pedaling to achieve higher speeds. The battery pack takes approximately 3.5 hours to fully charge, ensuring minimal downtime for users. Additionally, the bikes are equipped with four-piston hydraulic brakes for reliable stopping power.
The e-bikes feature an LCD screen that closely resembles a digital instrument cluster found in cars. This display provides riders with essential information such as speed, battery level, riding mode, and even an odometer.
While both bikes share similar components, their designs set them apart. The Bronco e-bike takes inspiration from trial motorcycles, featuring a rugged aesthetic. It rides on 27.5-inch Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M hard-wall tires and boasts a motorcycle-inspired seat. On the other hand, the Mustang e-bike embraces a more traditional design, tailored for on-road use. It is equipped with Pirelli Angel GT semi-slick tires.
In terms of pricing, the Bronco e-bike starts at $4,500 and comes standard in the color Area 51, chosen from Ford’s palette. However, buyers can opt for one of the 10 additional colors available for an extra $390. The Mustang e-bike is priced at $4,000 and comes in Carbonized Gray Metallic as standard. Similarly, buyers can choose from 10 additional paint colors for an additional $390.
Excitingly, both models are currently available for purchase, and deliveries are expected to begin later in 2024. Ford’s foray into the electric bike market demonstrates its commitment to expanding its product portfolio and catering to a wider range of customers.
