Genesis Unveils Updated Electrified G80 Sedan with Increased Battery Size and Luxurious Rear Quarters

Genesis made a big splash at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show, debuting its virtual high-performance concept, the X Gran Racer VGT for Gran Turismo. However, it wasn’t just futuristic concepts that Genesis showcased at the event. They also unveiled an updated version of their Electrified G80 sedan.

The updated Electrified G80 comes just seven months after Genesis introduced the updated internal-combustion-powered G80 in Korea. This refresh focuses mainly on cosmetic and comfort updates, as well as an upgraded powertrain. One notable change is the extension of the wheelbase by 5.1 inches. This extra space primarily benefits the second row, allowing for a slightly larger battery pack that increases from 87.2 kWh to 95.4 kWh.

While the exact increase in range is not yet known, it is expected that the larger battery will provide more miles to the current car’s 282-mile range. It is unclear when Genesis plans to bring the updated Electrified G80 to market, as it has been designated as a 2026 model year vehicle.

One of the notable enhancements to the Electrified G80 is the improved rear quarters. Passengers in the back seat will enjoy new VIP seats with leg rests and a memory function. Additionally, Genesis has introduced an EasyClose system, allowing passengers to effortlessly close the doors with push buttons. To further enhance passenger comfort, Genesis has added a deployable curtain ahead of the back window, although it is unknown if this feature will be standard or optional.

Moving to the exterior, the refreshed gas-engined G80 showcases Micro Lens Array headlights and a subtly reshaped crest grille at the front. The charge plug door is now powered, a feature that was expected when the sedan was first launched three years ago. The lower intake has been revised and now features chrome-lined brackets at both ends. The rear bumper has also been smoothed, and the chrome trim lines that start at the rear wheel arches have been reworked. Complementing these updates are new 19-inch wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Electrified G80 features several updates seen in the previous version of the G80. These include a dished, three-spoke steering wheel and a 27-inch OLED display.

The Electrified G80 is set to launch in the Korean market in August, and further news about its availability in other markets is eagerly anticipated. With its stylish design updates and increased battery capacity, the updated Electrified G80 promises to be an exciting addition to the electric sedan market.
