Genesis Reveals New Virtual Supercar for Gran Turismo Gaming
At the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show in South Korea, Genesis, a luxury car brand owned by Hyundai, unveiled a virtual high-performance concept called the X Gran Racer VGT. This sleek and low-slung coupe is part of the brand’s new Magma range of performance cars, which is why it features an eye-catching orange paint. The X Gran Racer VGT is a follow-up to the previously released X Gran Berlinetta, but it boasts a more muscular-looking body kit, including a larger front splitter, new side skirts, a massive rear wing, and an air diffuser. While the X Gran Berlinetta could pass as a street-legal model, the X Gran Racer VGT is designed for the track only.
Both cars share a similar cabin layout, but the Gran Racer features carbon fiber trim, a racing steering wheel with three dials, and a slanted center console with toggle switches. Genesis has also added a fully integrated roll cage and reinforced crossbeams in the doors to enhance safety during high-speed driving.
Under the hood, the X Gran Racer VGT features a powerful gasoline-electric hybrid system. It is equipped with a front-mid-mounted V6 engine that incorporates an electric supercharger and a front-mounted electric motor. This drivetrain configuration is the same as the one in the X Gran Berlinetta, but in the new concept, it has been significantly upgraded. The X Gran Racer VGT now produces an impressive total output of 1,540 horsepower and 1,051 pound-feet of torque. This is a substantial increase from the 1,071 horsepower and 986 pound-feet of torque offered by its predecessor.
While Genesis has confirmed that the X Gran Racer VGT will appear in a Gran Turismo game, no specific timeline for its release has been announced.
