GMW to Launch New Ora SUV for European Market, Says Chief Designer

Chinese automaker GMW is planning to launch a new electric SUV under its Ora brand as it aims to establish a stronger presence in the European market. The SUV, which will have a numerical name like the Ora 03 hatchback and Ora 07 saloon, will fill a gap in GMW’s lineup and complement its existing vehicles. According to GMW’s chief designer Andrew Dyson, the SUV will be larger than a crossover but smaller than a traditional SUV. Dyson confirmed that prototypes of the SUV are already in the studio.

To make a mark in the oversaturated SUV segment in Europe, GMW will rely on its quirky Ora design philosophy. The company plans to open two new design houses in Munich and Turin, which will focus on adding more European appeal to the Chinese models. Dyson emphasized the challenge of making the SUV look different from the competition, but he believes that Ora already has an advantage in terms of design.

Based on the information provided, it is likely that the new SUV will use GMW’s Lemon platform, just like its siblings. The powertrain options are expected to be borrowed from the upcoming Ora 07, which includes a choice between a 64kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery or an 83kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery. These options will offer a maximum range of 354 miles. Similar to the 07, the SUV might also offer a four-wheel-drive GT variant with impressive performance figures.

GMW launched the Ora brand in Europe two years ago with the Ora 03, previously known as the Ora Funky Cat. However, sales in the region were relatively low, with only 9,000 cars sold last year. With the introduction of the new SUV and the expansion of its design capabilities in Europe, GMW aims to increase its market share and compete more effectively with established brands.

In conclusion, GMW’s plan to launch a new electric SUV under the Ora brand demonstrates the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in the European market. By leveraging its unique design philosophy and opening new design houses in Europe, GMW aims to differentiate its vehicles from the competition. The use of the Lemon platform and powertrain options borrowed from the Ora 07 will ensure a reliable and efficient driving experience. With these strategic moves, GMW hopes to improve its sales performance and establish itself as a competitive player in the European automotive industry.
