Google Launches “Google for Startups AI Academy: American Infrastructure” to Bring AI Technology to Public Sector

Google recently announced the launch of its new startup program, the “Google for Startups AI Academy: American Infrastructure.” This initiative aims to bring AI technology to the public sector and provide support to companies solving problems in various areas such as agriculture, energy, education, public safety, healthcare, telecommunications, transportation, and urban development.

The program offers a twelve-week curriculum developed by Google’s People + AI Research (PAIR) team, providing startups with hands-on training from AI experts. Participants will also have access to advanced sales and go-to-market workshops, industry connections, and Google’s AI tools as they build their solutions.

Upon completing the program, the startups will become part of the alumni community, joining other infrastructure-focused companies like JustAir, Cambio, and Sensagrate. JustAir utilizes AI to monitor air pollution, Cambio focuses on decarbonizing commercial real estate, and Sensagrate works to reduce traffic fatalities.

Google is actively seeking startups that leverage AI to boost productivity and solve problems across various industries, including disaster prevention, environment and sustainability, smart manufacturing and logistics, public safety, water management, workforce development, and economic opportunity. The application deadline for this program is June 17.

While much attention is often given to AI companies that develop models, tools, and interfaces for working with AI, Google believes that focusing on real-world applications of the technology can have a significant impact on communities at the local, state, and national levels. As such, Google encourages startups to apply even if they are not directly focused on the aforementioned industries but are working towards creating more efficient and equitable public services.

By providing startups with training, support, and access to resources, Google’s “Google for Startups AI Academy: American Infrastructure” seeks to catalyze innovation in the public sector and foster the development of AI-powered solutions that address pressing societal challenges. The program not only demonstrates Google’s commitment to advancing AI technology but also its dedication to creating a positive impact on society by leveraging AI for the greater good.
