Google Meet Introduces Picture-in-Picture Feature for Multi-Taskers

Google Meet has recognized the challenge faced by many individuals who find it difficult to stay focused on a single tab during meetings. To address this issue, Google Meet has recently made the picture-in-picture feature an automatic part of its service. Now, when users leave the tab while in a Google Meet call, the call will automatically shrink to a smaller size and appear in the bottom-right part of the screen.

Previously, this feature was an optional setting that users had to manually enable during a meeting. However, many users were likely unaware of its existence. The new automatic picture-in-picture feature is incredibly helpful, especially for individuals who need to multitask or reference other information while participating in a meeting. With this update, users are no longer confined to the Google Meet tab.

Currently, this feature is only available to users on a computer using Google Chrome. Google’s Workspace team explained in a blog post that this update aims to ensure that meetings remain visible and accessible even when users switch tabs to take notes or view meeting-related documents.

As someone who frequently finds themselves needing to attend to other tasks during a meeting, I have found this tool to be quite helpful. It allows me to actively participate in the meeting while also attending to other important matters. The gradual rollout of this feature began on Monday, and it appeared for me on Thursday. It is expected to become available to other users over the next week or so.

With the introduction of this picture-in-picture feature, Google Meet has opened up a new world for multitaskers. Now, individuals can seamlessly switch between tabs and perform other tasks while remaining engaged in their meetings. This update reflects Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience and enabling productivity in the workplace.
