Google Pixel 9 Lineup, Gemini AI, and More: Highlights from Made by Google 2024

The Made by Google 2024 event has concluded, and it was filled with exciting announcements and reveals. This year’s event took place before Apple’s usual September iPhone reveal and focused on AI, a topic that has gained significant attention in recent years. One of the highlights of the event was Google’s Gemini AI, which received mixed reviews. While it was praised for being swift and responsive, it was also prone to hallucinations. Despite this, Gemini Live, Google’s answer to OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode, was launched for Android. This AI allows for more realistic and human-like conversations between users and the AI.

The Pixel 9 lineup was another major announcement at the event. The lineup includes three phones, with the addition of the Pixel 9 Fold Pro. Each phone in the lineup comes with Gemini as the default assistant and features improved cameras and hardware upgrades. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google’s second foldable phone, offers a larger screen and camera upgrades. Additionally, Google announced updates to its editing suite, new AI additions, and the introduction of the Pixel Watch 3, which now comes in a larger size.

Google also made health-focused announcements, including a “loss of pulse” detection feature for the Pixel Watch that can alert medical services in case of emergencies. The Pixel Buds Pro 2, infused with Gemini, were introduced as well. To make taking photos of kids easier, Google introduced the Made You Look feature, which uses the front-facing camera to distract or entertain the subject. The new Pixel lineup also includes its own weather app with AI capabilities.

Nest Thermostats received a long-awaited update, powered by Gemini AI, and the Chromecast line was replaced by the Google TV Streamer, which acts as a smart home hub.
