Gratitude Plus: Private Social Networking App for Healthier Relationships and Mental Wellness

Private social networking is experiencing a resurgence with the launch of Gratitude Plus. This startup aims to shift social media in a more positive direction by offering a wellness-focused personal reflections journal. In addition to journaling and mood tracking, Gratitude Plus allows users to stay in touch with family and friends through private circles within the app. This concept is reminiscent of Path, a social networking app that gained popularity by creating a space for smaller groups to interact. Gratitude Plus differentiates itself by encouraging healthier relationships and better mental wellness habits.

The app prompts users to journal by asking simple questions like what they’re grateful for or what made them smile that day. Users can also customize the prompts or write their own. The journal entries are meant to be shared with private groups, such as family members or close friends. Founder Daniel Shaffer designed the app to be elegant and user-friendly, allowing users to spend just a minute or two reflecting on their day.

Shaffer was inspired to create Gratitude Plus after experiencing grief following his mother’s death. He sought out accessible mental health tools and realized the need for a wellness platform that facilitates positive and personal connections. While other startups like DayNew focus on healing grief, Gratitude Plus emphasizes maintaining present relationships. The app also features a community feed where users can anonymously share their feelings and receive support from others. Around 50% of users utilize this feature, leaving hearts or messages of support.

Gratitude Plus encourages daily habits with push notifications and streaks, but its true value lies in the connections users make within the app. Shaffer plans to add more mental wellness tools like meditation and breath work in the future. Currently, the app has over 10,000 users, with 650 on a paid subscription plan that provides access to additional features.

With its focus on positive interaction and personal connections, Gratitude Plus offers a refreshing alternative to traditional social media platforms. By combining journaling, mood tracking, and private networking, this startup aims to improve mental wellness and strengthen relationships. Whether used by individuals, families, or specific groups, Gratitude Plus provides a space for meaningful engagement and support.
