“HWA Unveils Homage to Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II with Modern Upgrades”

HWA, a German engineering firm, has unveiled a new car that pays homage to the iconic Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II. The car is built from scratch and is set to go on sale next year. While the original Evo II was powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine tuned by Cosworth, HWA has opted for a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine supplied by Mercedes. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The rear-wheel-drive Evo produces 443 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque in its standard configuration, with a top speed of 168 mph. However, buyers have the option to upgrade to an Affalterbach performance package, which increases power to 493 horsepower and raises the top speed to 185 mph.

HWA has stayed true to the design of the Evo II, using a fiberglass composite body and even incorporating original-specification glass. The new Evo does feature more aggressive cues than the original car, with DTM racing-inspired wheel arches, larger six-spoke wheels (19 inches in the front, 20 inches in the rear), and a higher and larger rear bumper for improved aerodynamics. The front axle lift, a feature of the original Evo II, is also present in the new model, raising the front bumper and splitter by 30mm.

Braking is taken care of by a set of six-piston 380mm discs at the front and 360mm discs at the rear. LED lights are positioned both at the front and rear, ensuring visibility and safety.

Inside the car, the Evo features digital instruments designed to replicate 1990s LCD displays, providing a nostalgic touch. The car also comes equipped with smartphone integration, Recaro seats, and a road-legal fire extinguisher. HWA chose the Mercedes V6 engine because it offered a combination of low weight, compact packaging, and agile handling. The kerb weight of the car is 1360kg.

HWA’s Chief Technical Officer, Gordian von Schöning, explained that although the company specializes in zero-emission drivetrains, they decided to use an internal combustion engine for the Evo because customers expressed a desire for a car that delivers real driving emotion.

Only 100 examples of the Evo will be produced, making it a highly exclusive and sought-after vehicle. The price starts at €714,000, which is equivalent to £603,799 in the UK. The car comes with a 12-month/12,000 mile warranty, providing peace of mind to buyers.

In conclusion, HWA’s homage to the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II is a meticulously designed and engineered car that combines the best of modern technology with the iconic styling of the original. With its powerful V6 engine, aerodynamic enhancements, and thoughtful interior features, the Evo is sure to provide an exhilarating driving experience for lucky owners. Its limited production run and high price tag add to its exclusivity and desirability. Car enthusiasts looking for a blend of heritage and performance will undoubtedly be drawn to this stunning tribute to a true automotive legend.
