Hyundai Rumored to Produce Hydrogen-Powered Supercar
Hyundai enthusiasts have long been hoping for the N Vision 74 concept to become a reality. This futuristic concept car, with its impressive 671 horsepower and unique hydrogen powertrain, has captured the imagination of car enthusiasts worldwide. And if recent reports from Korea Economic Daily are to be believed, their wishes may soon come true.
According to the report, Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell supercar, codenamed N74, is scheduled to go into mass production in June 2026. The company plans to manufacture only 100 units annually for two years, making this a highly exclusive vehicle. This limited production run is a departure from Hyundai’s usual strategy of producing cars that are accessible to the majority of customers.
The N74 will be a two-door coupe with gullwing doors, resembling the N Vision 74 concept that garnered so much attention. Like the concept, the production version will feature a hydrogen fuel cell and a 70-kWh battery pack to power its electric motors. However, rumors suggest that the production version will have even more power than initially promised, boasting a whopping 764 horsepower.
The combination of hydrogen fuel cell and battery technology allows for optimal performance in different driving scenarios. Under normal conditions, the fuel cell will power the motors, with the battery coming into play during high-performance driving. This setup is expected to give the N74 impressive acceleration capabilities, with a reported 0-60 mph time of around three seconds.
Just a few months ago, Albert Biermann, Hyundai’s executive technical advisor and former head of R&D, dismissed the idea of producing the N Vision 74 concept. He stated that the company preferred to focus on sports cars that were affordable for the majority of customers. However, the allure of a high-performance flagship vehicle may have proven too strong for Hyundai to resist.
If the reports are accurate, Hyundai plans to build only 200 units of the N74, each with a price tag of approximately $370,000. This exclusivity, combined with the car’s impressive design and eco-friendly powertrain, has generated significant excitement among car enthusiasts. It would be a remarkable achievement for Hyundai to produce the world’s first hydrogen-powered supercar, especially considering that the brand is known for its affordability and accessibility.
While these reports are still rumors at this point, the possibility of Hyundai entering the high-performance supercar market is certainly an intriguing prospect. It remains to be seen if the N74 will indeed become a reality, but for now, car enthusiasts can continue to dream of a future where this cutting-edge vehicle hits the streets.
