Hyundai Unveils Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV Racers for Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Hyundai is making waves in the racing world with their latest project – the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV. These purpose-built racers are set to compete in the Electric Modified SUV/Crossover class at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, with hopes of securing a new record. But what sets these cars apart from the rest?

First and foremost, Hyundai didn’t hold back when it came to power. Using its eN1 Cup Car as a base, the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV boasts an impressive 677 horsepower, a 36-horsepower boost over the street version. With this kind of power under the hood, Hyundai is certainly making a statement.

But power is only part of the equation. To ensure optimal performance on the track, Hyundai went all out in terms of aerodynamics. The widebody panels, massive front spoiler, and eye-catching rear wing not only give the car a sleek and aggressive appearance but also generate about four times more downforce than the race car itself. This means the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV will have exceptional grip and stability, allowing drivers to push the limits.

In addition to the aerodynamic enhancements, Hyundai equipped the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV with a five-way adjustable suspension and 18-inch forged wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan 005 slicks. These features, combined with six-piston brakes in the front and four-piston brakes in the back, ensure that the car will handle like a dream and have no problem coming to a stop when needed.

One unique feature that Hyundai has added to the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV is their N Active Sound+ system. Pikes Peak organizers typically require electric vehicles to emit a distinct siren-like sound, but instead of just meeting the minimum requirements, Hyundai decided to turn up the volume. With simulated engine noise reaching up to 120 decibels, these race cars will undoubtedly make their presence known on the track.

Not to be outdone, Hyundai will also be entering two production versions of the Ioniq 5 N in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. These road cars have undergone some modifications to meet the necessary safety standards for the competition, such as the addition of a roll cage, fire suppression system, and Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans driver’s seat with a six-point Sabelt harness. Under the hood, they feature a dual-motor powertrain capable of delivering a maximum of 641 horsepower to the Yokohama Advan tires.

The drivers chosen to pilot these formidable machines are no strangers to the world of racing. Robin Shute, the overall winner of last year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, along with Hyundai World Rally Championship team driver Dani Sordo, will be behind the wheel of the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EVs. Meanwhile, Paul Dallenbach, an eleven-time PPIHC winner, and Ron Zaras, an ex-Hoonigan executive and first-time PPIHC participant, will be taking on the challenge in the production cars.

The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV and its production counterparts are set to make their debut on the mountain during testing on June 18. With their impressive power, aerodynamics, and world-class drivers, Hyundai is certainly aiming high and hoping to add some new records to their name. It will be an exciting event to watch and a testament to Hyundai’s commitment to pushing boundaries in the world of motorsports.
