“Hyundai Unveils Plans for Three-Row Electric Ioniq Model, Likely Production Version of Seven Concept”

Hyundai’s Upcoming Three-Row Electric Crossover: What We Know So Far

Hyundai has announced that a new three-row, seven-seater electric vehicle (EV) will join the lineup of its Ioniq models by the end of 2024. While details are scarce, it is widely believed that this upcoming EV will be the production version of the Seven Concept showcased at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Exterior and Interior Changes

The Seven Concept boasted a highly futuristic design, and it is expected that the production model will feature significant updates compared to its concept version. Although we can’t say for sure how much the design has evolved, we anticipate a more refined and contemporary appearance.

Inside the cabin, the Seven Concept delighted with its living room-like interior, complete with a curved rear bench seat and swivel front seats. However, it is unlikely that these features will make it to the production model. Instead, the three-row EV’s seating layout is expected to mirror that of the popular Palisade model, with space for two passengers in the front, three in the middle, and two in the back. Nevertheless, we can still expect a tech-heavy cabin with ample screen space, aligning with Hyundai’s commitment to cutting-edge technology.

Platform and Drivetrain Possibilities

The upcoming three-row EV from Hyundai is likely to share its platform with other vehicles in the Ioniq lineup. Specifically, it is expected to ride on the modular Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which underpins the Ioniq 5, Kia EV3, and even the Kia EV9, offering three rows as well.

This versatile platform can accommodate various drivetrain layouts, including front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive, and all-wheel-drive. Although Hyundai has not yet revealed technical specifics, it is worth noting that the Kia EV9 is available with both rear- and all-wheel-drive options. Therefore, there is a strong possibility that the three-row Ioniq (rumored to be called the Ioniq 7) will offer both drivetrain configurations as well.

Release Date and Expectations

While Hyundai continues to keep us eagerly awaiting further details, we can expect more information about this large Ioniq model to emerge in the coming months. An official unveiling is planned for later in 2024, with a potential debut at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show. If all goes as planned, the EV will go on sale shortly after its debut as a 2025 model.

In the meantime, Hyundai’s current Palisade model will remain on the market for the 2026 model year with no significant changes.

In conclusion, Hyundai’s upcoming three-row EV is set to bring a new level of excitement to the brand’s electric lineup. With its anticipated sleek design, tech-forward interior, and versatile drivetrain options, this model aims to cater to the needs of families seeking spacious and eco-friendly transportation. Stay tuned for more updates on Hyundai’s electrifying future.
