Ineos, the British automaker, has showcased several prototypes of its Grenadier 4×4 at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. These concepts provide a glimpse into the potential future additions to the Grenadier lineup, which currently consists of the Grenadier and Quartermaster pick-up. Although Ineos has not confirmed production plans for these variants, it is clear that the company is exploring new possibilities for its flagship model.
One of the standout prototypes is the V8-engined Grenadier, which features a GM-supplied 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 425 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque. While Ineos has not announced any production plans for this powerful variant, it is worth noting that many of its competitors offer V8 powertrains, suggesting that there may be a market demand for such a model.
Another intriguing concept is the Grenadier Detour, the first car from Ineos’s new bespoke division, Arcane Works. This limited-run model showcases Ineos’s commitment to innovation and customization. By introducing a dedicated division for bespoke projects, Ineos aims to cater to the unique needs and preferences of its customers.
In terms of off-road capability, Ineos has collaborated with German modifiers LeTech to create a prototype with substantially raised suspension, portal axles, and offset wheel hubs. This modification results in an impressive increase in ground clearance from 250mm to 514mm and a boost in wading depth from 800mm to 1050mm. While Ineos has already delivered portal axle-equipped Grenadiers to a German fire brigade, it remains uncertain whether this option will be offered to regular customers.
Ineos also presented the ‘Shortermaster’, a chopped-down version of the Quartermaster pick-up. With 305mm removed between the wheels and the rear seats moved forward, this concept aims to maximize the load bay while maintaining practicality. Although it is unclear whether this model will enter production, it demonstrates Ineos’s willingness to explore different configurations and cater to various customer needs.
Furthermore, Ineos revealed the Safari concept, an eight-seater based on the Quartermaster. Developed by Botswana-based Kavango, this variant is designed for use in demanding terrains by industries such as conservation, safari, anti-poaching, veterinary, primary healthcare, and film production. This concept highlights Ineos’s commitment to versatility and adaptability, allowing its vehicles to excel in diverse environments and applications.
Lastly, Buzz Special Vehicles unveiled a radical racer based on the Grenadier for the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship. This motorsport outfit has enhanced the BMW petrol engine to deliver 349 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with a sports exhaust, race suspension, and a stripped-out cockpit, this rally car showcases the performance potential of the Grenadier platform.
While Ineos’s smaller electric model, the Fusilier 4×4, has been delayed indefinitely due to concerns over EV uptake and legislation, the company is clearly focused on expanding the Grenadier family. By showcasing these prototypes at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ineos is demonstrating its commitment to innovation, customization, and meeting the diverse needs of its customers. As Ineos Automotive CEO Lynn Calder stated, “The Grenadier is ‘built for more’, and over the next few years, we will be showing just what that means.” With these exciting concepts, Ineos is poised to make a significant impact in the 4×4 market.
