Exciting news for all the Homeworld fans out there! FarBridge Inc has announced its partnership with Gearbox Entertainment to develop Homeworld: Vast Reaches, the first virtual reality-based entry in the renowned Homeworld series. This new installment will take players on a thrilling journey through strategic space battles like never before, immersing them in full VR environments. Get ready to step into the shoes of a new Fleet Command, Tyrra Soban, and experience the epic battles firsthand. Homeworld: Vast Reaches is set to launch on Meta Quest 2 and 3 later this year.
Vast Reaches takes place between the stories of Homeworld and Homeworld 2, offering players a unique perspective on the beloved franchise. The game retains the strategic approach to combat that made the mainline titles so popular, allowing Fleet Commanders to reposition and move their ships from any angle. As Tyrra Soban, players will join forces with Karan S’jet, the iconic Fleet Command from the original games, to combat a mysterious new enemy known as the Radaa.
Richard Rouse III, FarBridge’s studio creative director, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “We’ve taken care to make a new experience that both Homeworld and strategy game fans will enjoy. It’s been an honor to take the amazing space battles and unique characters of Homeworld and let people play in an entirely new way with virtual and mixed reality.”
But that’s not all Homeworld fans have to look forward to this year. Blackbird Interactive is also developing Homeworld 3, the latest mainline entry in the series. Unlike Homeworld: Vast Reaches, Homeworld 3 will be a more traditional strategy game, set to launch on PC. Originally crowdfunded via Fig, the game caught the attention of publisher Gearbox Entertainment, which was later acquired by Embracer Group. Recently, Gearbox Entertainment was sold to Take-Two Interactive. After facing several delays, Homeworld 3 is now slated to launch on May 13.
