Introducing the 2025 GMC Terrain: A Fresh and Muscular Design with Exciting Features

GMC has unveiled the 2025 Terrain, a compact SUV that takes inspiration from its sibling, the Chevrolet Equinox, but with the distinctive GMC touch. The first thing that catches the eye is its fresh design, particularly the new front end reminiscent of the GMC Canyon. The hood is noticeably higher, giving the Terrain a more muscular appearance, and the emphasized fenders contribute to its bold look. Adding a touch of flair, there is an optional painted roof available, with a gray color for black cars and black for other colors. The Denali trim can be equipped with larger, 20-inch wheels, adding to its commanding presence on the road.

In terms of trims, the 2025 Terrain lineup consists of the Elevation, AT4, and Denali models. However, only the Elevation will be available for purchase initially, with the AT4 and Denali joining the lineup in the following year. Each trim has its own unique grille designs, wheel options, and styling cues. The AT4, true to its off-road heritage, features an off-road-tuned suspension, a slight lift, all-terrain tires, underbody skid plates, recovery hooks, and a special “terrain” drive mode. On the other hand, the Denali offers a luxurious experience with “Smart Frequency Dampers” for a smoother ride, an abundance of standard luxury features, and the option for 20-inch wheels.

Under the hood, all trims of the 2025 Terrain come equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain is shared with the new Equinox, and while there are indications that GM will introduce more hybrid options in the future, it remains uncertain if the Terrain will be part of that strategy. As for drivetrain options, the 2025 model will exclusively offer all-wheel drive, but GMC has confirmed that a front-wheel drive version will be available in the subsequent model year. It’s worth noting that the all-wheel drive configuration allows for a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

Stepping inside the 2025 Terrain, drivers will be greeted with a significantly revamped interior. The standout feature is a tall, portrait-oriented 15-inch touchscreen in the center, accompanied by an 11-inch digital cluster, both of which come as standard equipment. The infotainment system runs on Android Automotive software and includes Google Maps as the native navigation system, as well as the Google Assistant for voice commands. Additionally, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are retained, as promised by GM for their gas-powered vehicles.

This generation of the Terrain introduces various new features. Notable additions include a rear camera mirror, an auto liftgate that opens with key fob presence, rain-sensing wipers, a heated wiper park zone to prevent ice buildup, and the capability for a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot. The 2025 Terrain also boasts a range of driver assistance features, although Super Cruise is not included.

While pricing details for the 2025 Terrain have yet to be announced, GMC plans to launch the SUV in late 2024. Buyers interested in the AT4 and Denali trims will have to wait until the 2025 calendar year, and the 2026 model year will bring these versions online. Overall, the 2025 GMC Terrain offers an enticing blend of rugged aesthetics, advanced technology, and diverse trim options, making it an appealing choice for compact SUV enthusiasts.
