“Introducing the Aston Martin Valiant: A Track-Focused Special Edition Inspired by Fernando Alonso”

Aston Martin Unveils Limited-Run Valiant: A Track-Focused Beast Inspired by Fernando Alonso

Aston Martin has announced the launch of a new limited-run special edition, the Valiant, which is a track-focused version of the exclusive Valour model. The Valiant was created as a result of a personal commission from Formula 1 ace Fernando Alonso, who drives for Aston Martin’s F1 squad. Alonso wanted a more extreme, race car-inspired version of the Valour, prompting Aston engineers to focus on adding power and downforce while reducing weight.

Powering the Valiant is a 734bhp 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering the same 555lb ft of torque as in the Valour. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, and Aston has boosted the power by 29bhp compared to its predecessor. The car has undergone an obsessive weight-reduction program, with various components contributing to the total saving of around 100kg compared to the Valour.

One notable weight-saving measure is the adoption of a 3D-printed rear subframe, which saves 3kg without compromising stiffness. Additionally, a magnesium torque tube removes 8.6kg from the center of the car, and a lithium-ion battery saves 11.5kg. The Valiant also features 21-inch lightweight magnesium wheels, reducing unsprung mass by 14kg.

The bodywork of the Valiant is largely sculpted in carbon fiber, with several styling changes that add downforce while reducing drag. The front splitter features F1-esque multi-layer end plates to smooth airflow past the front wheels, and a carbon fiber grille increases the flow of air to the engine. Aero discs mounted on the wheels reduce turbulence, and there are apertures around the wheel to dissipate heat generated by the brakes. The rear of the car features a Kamm tail design with a raised deck lid and a large fixed wing.

Inside the Valiant, the focus is on motorsport-esque functionality, with large sections of exposed carbon fiber. The steering wheel has been redesigned to be slimmer and more intuitive, with all switches removed. The gear selector is also a new design, and a cutaway in the transmission tunnel showcases the gear linkage. To meet its track-focused brief, the Valiant comes with a built-in steel half-cage and Recaro Podium race seats that can be fitted with four-point race harnesses.

Aston Martin’s Q division will produce just 38 examples of the Valiant, with each car expected to cost close to £2 million. Customers will have the opportunity for high levels of customization, allowing them to create a truly unique and exclusive sports car.

The Valiant is set to make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month, where fans and car enthusiasts will have the chance to witness this exceptional track-focused machine in action. With its powerful engine, aerodynamic enhancements, and weight reduction measures, the Valiant promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience that lives up to its racing-inspired roots.
