Ford has launched the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally in the UK, targeting off-road enthusiasts. Priced at £76,790, the Rally is an option pack for the existing Mach-E GT model. It boasts 480bhp and 649lb ft of torque, making it trail-ready and powerful. The Rally comes with several off-road chassis upgrades, including new springs that increase the ride height by 20mm and specially tuned MagneRide dampers. Ford has also made sure to protect the battery and electric motors by using thick underbody plating. The body cladding has been coated with a protective spray to reduce the risk of chips and scrapes, and there is even a tow hook integrated into the front bumper.
The Mustang Mach-E Rally has its own Rally Sport driving mode, which offers improved acceleration control, more aggressive damping, and improved traction on slippery surfaces. This mode also adapts the traction and stability control systems to allow for bigger slides. The Rally’s bespoke styling was inspired by the iconic Ford Focus RS hot hatch, featuring a dramatic rear spoiler, contrasting body trim, beefy front splitter, black roof panel, rally-style fog lights, and racing stripes.
Inside, the Mach-E Rally is subtly different from the Mach-E GT, with white accents throughout to match the wheels, Mach-E Rally badging, and sports seats. The idea for the Rally came from a rallycross enthusiast on Ford’s Always On team, which monitors feedback from customers and social media. Darren Palmer, head of Ford’s EV programs, said that the project reached fruition quickly because it was one of Ford’s “go-fast” programs, taking only around 18 months from conception to unveiling.
The Mach-E Rally has been tested against legendary off-roading heroes on rally surfaces and has proven to be super-stable on both Tarmac and other surfaces. This stability is attributed to the precise acceleration control and the low-slung weight of the underfloor battery. Palmer expressed his astonishment at the car’s capabilities and said, “To throw it around, you have to change a few things. We were blown away by the things you can do. It’s amazing.”
