Jeep Introduces Off-Road Concept: The Trailhawk for the Wagoneer S

Jeep Breaks Tradition with First All-Electric Offering: The Wagoneer S Launch Edition

Jeep, a brand synonymous with off-road capability, surprised enthusiasts with its first all-electric offering, the street-oriented Wagoneer S Launch Edition. While some may find it unusual for Jeep to prioritize a high-performance model over an off-road-focused vehicle, Bill Peffer, senior vice president and head of Jeep for North America, explains that the Wagoneer S Launch Edition was developed and planned ahead of the upcoming Jeep Recon.

However, Jeep made sure to show its commitment to off-roading during the Wagoneer S reveal by introducing the Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept, which embodies the classic Jeep spirit. Although specific specifications were not provided, it is plausible that the Trailhawk may not match the power and convenience technology of the Launch Edition. For instance, it does not feature a passenger infotainment screen.

Nevertheless, the Wagoneer S Trailhawk compensates for any potential power and tech limitations with its practicality on rough terrain. It boasts an additional 3 inches of ground clearance compared to the Launch Edition, reaching an impressive 9.4 inches. This is achieved through a 2-inch suspension lift and 31.5-inch all-terrain tires mounted on 18-inch multipiece wheels. These wheels have a unique ridge on the rim to prevent the tire bead from unseating at low pressure.

The Trailhawk’s off-road prowess extends beyond increased ground clearance. It features steeper front and rear bumpers that improve approach and departure angles. Additionally, it offers an extra “Rock” mode in the Selec-Terrain traction system, a feature absent in the Launch Edition. The Trailhawk’s rugged appearance is accentuated by scratch-resistant black plastic trim along the fenders, bumpers, and rocker panels. Eye-catching bright red-orange tow hooks and a stylish aluminum roof rack add to its adventurous appeal. Notably, the Trailhawk bears “Desert-Rated” badging, similar to the Jeep Gladiator Mojave, indicating its capability for fast desert off-roading.

Inside, the Trailhawk receives an off-road-focused makeover. Owing to the addition of a massive grab bar in front of the passenger, there are fewer screens compared to the Launch Edition. This substantial grab bar also includes threaded inserts, allowing owners to mount various equipment. The center console features extra grab handles for enhanced passenger stability. The interior’s faux leather upholstery sports an intriguing Mantis Green color with contrasting Ultraviolet purple stitching. Adding to its unique character, the Trailhawk boasts granite veneer trim selected for its resemblance to meteorites. The doors include storage straps that can be easily adjusted to accommodate different gear. Ralph Gilles, chief design officer for Stellantis, reveals that these straps will soon feature in other Jeep models.

Jeep has yet to confirm whether the Trailhawk concept will enter production. The company is seeking feedback from enthusiasts and potential buyers to determine its market potential. Given its alignment with the essence of Jeep and its appeal to individuals with active lifestyles, many believe that the Trailhawk would be a resounding success for the brand. The striking green interior further enhances its desirability.
