While there were rumors suggesting that OpenAI would release a search engine or product to rival Google, CEO Sam Altman debunked those rumors, stating that it’s “not gpt-5, not a search engine, but we’ve been hard at work on some new stuff we think people will love! feels like magic to me.” President Greg Brockman also hinted at a “live demo of some new work.”
There have been hints that OpenAI could be launching a conversational audio/voice assistant similar to the character Samantha in the movie “Her.” Altman liked a tweet from a user who mentioned watching “Her” to prepare for Monday’s event. Additionally, several OpenAI employees have posted cryptic updates expressing their excitement for what others are presenting.
Altman also answered questions on Reddit related to OpenAI’s “Model Spec,” a document outlining how they want their AI products to behave. In response to a question about ChatGPT 4 and DALL-E being free, Altman hinted that there may be some truth to that idea.
There’s speculation that OpenAI will be releasing a voice assistant based on observations from users on X. The source code on OpenAI’s website suggests that they have webRTC servers in place to allow phone calls inside of ChatGPT. The ChatGPT iOS app has also been updated recently with a new conversational user interface.
Whatever OpenAI announces at the event, it is expected to have a significant impact on the AI and tech industry. The event is highly anticipated, and the industry will likely be discussing the ramifications for days and weeks to come. Stay tuned for the event at 10 am PT/1 pm ET and follow our live reporting for updates.
