Kia Confirms High-Performance GT Version of EV9 Electric SUV for January Debut

Kia is gearing up to unveil a high-performance version of its upcoming EV9 electric three-row SUV, known as the GT. According to Kia’s Investor Day presentation, the EV9 GT will have a staggering acceleration time of 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds. This impressive performance will be achieved through a dual electric motor setup, which is expected to generate an “enormous power output.” While the exact power figures have yet to be disclosed, it is likely that the SUV will inherit a similar powertrain to the smaller EV6 GT, which boasts 576 horsepower.

Compared to the standard EV9 GT-Line, the EV9 GT will be significantly faster, shaving off 1.3 seconds in the 0 to 60 mph sprint. It will also only be 0.5 seconds slower than the EV6 GT, despite potentially being heavier due to its larger size. As the performance flagship of the EV9 lineup, the GT will come equipped with all-wheel drive and a reinforced suspension and electronic braking system. This combination is designed to deliver stable driving performance at high speeds. Similar to the EV6 GT, the GT’s suspension is expected to have electronically adjustable damping, and there may be additional upgrades such as a limited-slip differential.

In addition to the exciting news about the EV9 GT, Kia has also confirmed that an updated version of the EV6 GT will be introduced later this year. This demonstrates Kia’s commitment to expanding its lineup of high-performance electric vehicles. The company has ambitious plans for its EV offerings, with six new mass-market models set to launch in major locations by the end of the decade. These models include the EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5. The EV3, a subcompact SUV, is slated for release by the end of this year and is expected to have a starting price of around $30,000.

Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song has outlined the brand’s goal to sell 1.6 million EVs by 2030. To achieve this target, Kia plans to focus on smaller, more affordable models while phasing out larger, less affordable ones. This strategy aligns with the growing demand for compact electric vehicles and demonstrates Kia’s commitment to making electric mobility accessible to a wider audience.

Overall, Kia’s upcoming EV9 GT is set to be an exciting addition to the high-performance electric SUV segment. With its impressive acceleration and advanced features, it aims to attract enthusiasts looking for both power and sustainability. Kia’s broader EV lineup, including the updated EV6 GT and future models, further reinforces the brand’s commitment to the electric revolution. As Kia charges into the future, it is poised to make a significant impact in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
