Kimera Unveils First ‘Hyper Retromod’ Racer, the K39: A Modern Take on the Lancia Beta Montecarlo

Italian restomod builder Kimera has unveiled its latest creation, the K39, which it claims to be the first ‘hyper retromod’ in existence. Inspired by the Group 5 Lancia Beta Montecarlo, the K39 combines the classic styling of a road car with the performance of a modern racer. The car features a carbonfibre monocoque chassis, a departure from Kimera’s previous models that were based on the Lancia Beta Montecarlo shell.

While Kimera has not released full details of the K39’s technical specifications, the company’s references to the Group 5 racer suggest that it will be a powerful machine. It is expected to be equipped with a twin-charged 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine, similar to the ones found in the Evo37 and Evo38 models. However, the K39’s output is expected to exceed the 600bhp of its predecessors.

Kimera has announced that the K39 will compete in next year’s Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. The company aims to challenge the current record set by an electric car, which completed the course in 7 minutes and 57.148 seconds. Kimera believes that the K39’s performance will not be hindered by the thin air at high altitudes, unlike electric vehicles, giving it an advantage in the race. The last internal combustion-engine car to hold the Pikes Peak record was the Peugeot 208 T16, boasting a twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 875bhp.

Following its debut at Pikes Peak, Kimera plans to release a road-going version of the K39. The company has stated that only a limited number of these cars will be produced, further adding to their exclusivity.

The release of the K39 marks an exciting development in the restomod industry. By blending classic design with modern technology, Kimera has created a unique and powerful vehicle that appeals to both enthusiasts and collectors. The K39’s participation in the Pikes Peak Hillclimb will undoubtedly test its performance capabilities and showcase its potential as a top-tier racing car. With its upcoming road-going version, Kimera is set to attract even more attention from automotive enthusiasts worldwide.
