Kinetix and Overdare Partner to Bring Generative AI to Gamers

blankKinetix, a generative AI startup, has partnered with Overdare, a user-generated content platform, to bring the power of generative AI to gamers. This collaboration allows players to create dynamic 3D animations, known as ’emotes,’ within the game. By integrating Kinetix technology into Overdare, gamers can now easily incorporate popular trends from TikTok, iconic moments from film and TV, and unique personal recordings into their gameplay.

This partnership marks a significant shift in user engagement within the gaming community. While user-generated content has been a growing trend in gaming, most options have been limited to recombination of existing assets. However, Kinetix’s AI technology enables gamers to create completely new animations, transforming them from mere participants to active creators. This not only provides players with a new avenue for self-expression but also generates an endless flow of content for games and gaming platforms at a minimal cost.

The integration of generative AI into games is groundbreaking. While AI tools have been available to developers to improve existing workflows, gamers have never before had the power of generative AI at their fingertips within a game. Yassine Tahi, CEO of Kinetix, emphasizes the transformative nature of this technology, stating that it brings a new level of personalization and social interaction to the gaming community.

The popularity of emotes in gaming cannot be understated. These short animations have played a significant role in the success of games like Fortnite and Helldivers 2. Now, with Kinetix’s AI emote technology, users can generate their own emotes for any avatar style in any game or app. This level of customization enhances player retention and fosters a deeper connection to the gaming ecosystem.

Hyungchul Park, CEO of Overdare, highlights the importance of video-to-emote technology in boosting player retention and creating a more personalized gaming experience. Players can craft personalized emotes for special moments within the game, such as game-winning ceremonies or action moves. Additionally, the ability to share user-generated emotes on social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube enhances the visibility and appeal of the Overdare platform.

Currently in an alpha test phase in Southeast Asian markets, Overdare plans for a full global release later this year. Founded in 2020, Kinetix has raised $12.5 million in seed funding and is recognized as one of the hottest startups in Paris. Overdare, established through a joint venture between Krafton and Naver Z Corp, is gearing up for a launch by the end of 2024.

This partnership between Kinetix and Overdare signifies a significant advancement in user-generated content within gaming. By giving gamers the power of generative AI, they can now create unique and personalized animations within the game, enhancing their overall gaming experience and fostering a deeper connection to the gaming community. As this technology continues to evolve and expand to more games, the possibilities for user creativity within gaming are endless.
