“Land Rover Defender Gets Luxurious Upgrade with New Seven-Seater and More Powerful Engine”

Land Rover has made some significant changes to its Defender line-up, introducing a luxurious new seven-seater model, a more powerful diesel engine, and a plug-in hybrid variant. These changes come four years after the launch of the L663-generation Defender and bring important mechanical and cosmetic tweaks, as well as a reorganization of the trim structure.

The most notable change to the updated Defender is the introduction of the D350 diesel engine, which replaces the previous D300 engine. This new engine, borrowed from the Range Rover, increases power output by 49bhp and torque by 37lb ft, resulting in improved performance for overtaking and towing. While specific performance figures have not been revealed, it is expected to improve on the D300’s 7.0-second 0-62mph time.

Another engine change is the replacement of the P400 Ingenium straight-six petrol engine with a more powerful 419bhp supercharged 5.0-litre V8. Additionally, the plug-in hybrid Defender now features the P300e arrangement found in the Evoque and Discovery Sport PHEVs, which utilizes a 1.5-litre triple engine and produces a total of 305bhp. These changes have been made to ensure compliance with Euro 6e emissions legislation.

In terms of cabin upgrades, Land Rover has introduced a new Captain Chairs pack for the three-row Defender 130. This pack replaces the middle bench with a pair of individual armchairs, offering additional comfort and convenience for passengers. The captain chairs are heated and ventilated as standard, with easy access to cup holders in the middle. They can be added to various Defender models, including the X-Dynamic HSE with the new Signature Interior pack, which brings additional features such as electrically adjustable front seats, heated third-row seats, Windsor leather, Kvadrat upholstery, and a bespoke color scheme for the interior trim.

Land Rover has also simplified the trim options for the Defender, now offering a range of trims including S, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE, X, and V8 variants. These trims are available for the 90, 110, and 130 bodystyles. Additionally, there is a new ‘Sedona’ edition of the 110 available for the next year, featuring bespoke red paintwork, a black trim pack, and an optional bonnet decal depicting the rocky terrain of Sedona, Arizona.

Prices for the Defender start from £53,310 for the S 90 model and £60,470 for the smallest version of the commercial Hard Top variant. The range-topping 130 starts from £81,585.

Overall, these updates to the Land Rover Defender line-up offer improved performance, increased comfort, and additional customization options for customers. With the introduction of more powerful engines and luxurious features, Land Rover aims to meet the demands of its discerning customers while ensuring compliance with emissions regulations.
